Dealing with Doctor Visits and Medical News

Psalm 73:26 – “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart.”

Today, we’re talking about something most of us face as we grow older — doctor visits and medical news. Whether it’s a regular check-up, a blood test, a specialist appointment, or unexpected results from a scan, these moments can feel heavy.

We’ve all been there — sitting in that cold waiting room, eyes on the clock, surrounded by strangers who are just as anxious. You try to stay calm, but your thoughts are racing: ‘What will the doctor say? What if the numbers aren’t good? What if it’s something serious?’

Today’s scripture, Psalm 73:26, reminds us: ‘My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart.’ That means even when our body feels weak, our spirit doesn’t have to break. God gives us strength — the kind of strength no medical report can shake.

Let’s talk honestly — it’s hard to face your own health struggles. It’s hard when your body doesn’t do what it used to. It’s hard when you leave the doctor’s office with more questions than answers. And it’s even harder when you feel alone in that struggle.

But here’s the truth: Jehovah walks with you into every doctor’s office, every exam room, and every hospital corridor. He’s with you during the tests. He’s with you while you wait for results. And He’s with you even when the diagnosis isn’t what you hoped for.

Many seniors feel discouraged after medical visits. Maybe you feel like you’re just being passed from one appointment to another. You’re tired. You’re frustrated. And you might even be afraid. That’s normal — but don’t let those feelings take control. Instead, invite God into the process.

Before you go to your appointment, pray. Ask Jehovah to give your doctor wisdom. Ask Him to calm your spirit and help you understand everything clearly. Ask for strength, no matter what you’re facing.

Another thing: don’t be afraid to ask questions. You deserve to understand what’s going on with your health. Ask the doctor to explain things in simple terms. Take notes. Bring someone with you if needed. Your voice matters in the exam room.

Now let’s talk about what happens after the appointment. Whether you heard good news or difficult news, you’re going to need time to process. Don’t ignore your emotions. Don’t brush off the fear. Instead, talk it out with someone you trust. Share your concerns. And most importantly, share them with God.

Sometimes, after hearing medical news, we let our imagination run wild. We go home, sit in silence, and let anxiety take the wheel. That’s the moment to fight back — not with worry, but with the Word. Remind yourself what God has said. Remind yourself of his promises.

Psalm 73:26 is one of those promises. When your body feels weak and your heart feels faint, God becomes your strength. He lifts you up, holds you together, and walks with you through recovery, through treatment, through whatever is ahead.

It’s also important to take action on what the doctor advises. Take your medications. Change your diet if they recommend it. Exercise gently. Go to your follow-up visits. Doing your part doesn’t mean you’re doubting God — it means you’re trusting him to work through your effort.

You can have faith and still take your medicine. You can believe in healing and still go to physical therapy. Faith and wisdom go hand in hand.

Psalm 73:26 says, ‘My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.’ This verse speaks directly to the fears we face with our health. It acknowledges our reality — that our flesh, our human body, has limits. It ages. It wears down. It fails us sometimes.

But the verse doesn’t stop there. It gives us the hope we need: ‘but God is the strength of my heart.’ That’s the part that matters. That’s what carries you through recovery. That’s what holds you steady when you feel like falling apart.

God’s strength is internal. It shows up in the peace you feel when the results come in. It shows up in your calm when others are worried. It shows up in the quiet confidence that says, ‘I’m in God’s hands, no matter what.’

That’s the kind of strength that can’t be explained by doctors or test results. It’s supernatural. It’s divine. And it’s available to you, right now, today.

Jehovah, today we bring you our fears. We bring you our health concerns, our doctor visits, and the weight of medical news we don’t always understand. Be our strength. Calm our minds. Let us hear you louder than we hear the world. Give wisdom to our doctors, compassion to our caregivers, and healing to our bodies. Help us rest in the knowledge that you are with us through every step — and that Your Word stands above every diagnosis. In Jesus’ name — Amen.

You might not control what the doctor says. You might not be able to change every result. But you can choose how you respond. You can choose to trust Jehovah. You can choose to pray. You can choose to keep showing up for yourself, no matter what.

Doctor visits are a part of life — especially as we get older. But they don’t define us. Our faith does. And our God has never failed. So the next time you have an appointment, take God with you. Let him be your peace, your wisdom, and your strength.

Whatever the results say, Jehovah still has the final word. I’m R-E SAMPLE. This is JUST STRAIGHT TALK. I’ll see you next time.

Remember– Truth Don’t Change. JUST STRAIGHT TALK
